Myddelton Square Association
Who are we?
The Myddelton Square Association (MSA) is a residents' association for residents and property owners in Myddelton Square.
Our objectives, as set out in our Rules and Constitution, are to protect and maintain the status, character and integrity of Myddelton Square as a heritage site in a conservation area and as a community asset. We also aim is to improve communication and promote a friendly community spirit in the square.
The association represents members in local matters, and a social activity is held each year in addition to the Association’s annual general meeting normally held in January. The MSA committee meets more regularly to discuss the association's activities and relevant local matters.
Membership is open to residents or property owners in Myddelton Square, with a small annual subscription fee (currently £10 per year). For further information, please contact us using the information on our contact page

Activities
The MSA tpyically meets every year at its annual AGM in January, which is also an opportunity for neighbours to meet and socialise. We also arrange an annual summer garden party, which held in Myddelton Square Gardens (weather permitting, or if not then the church hall), to which MSA members and neighbours bring food, meet and enjoy one another's company and the beautiful gardens.
MSA produces a periodic newsletter, "Square Roots", distributed free of charge to all residents of the square, e-mailed to everyone on our mailing list, and available on this website (above).
The association takes an active interest in local affairs. We work with the council on matters affecting Myddelton Square Gardens, and advise and represent members by responding to consultations, significant planning applications, and other matters affecting the square.
History of the association
The history of the Myddelton Square Association began over 40 years ago in 1979, when a group of leaseholders living in Myddelton Square met. The neighbours were keen to get to know each other, but we were also concerned about their relationship (or lack thereof) with the New River Company, which owned their buildings. From that meeting the "Myddelton Square Leaseholders Association" (MSLA) was formed.
The MSLA easily recruited members, neighbours got to know one another, the the organisation held productive meetings with their freeholder, The New River Company, who listened to leaseholders' concerns and seemed glad to have a conduit through which concerns could be channeled and responded to.
The New River Company itself was eventually taken over by London Merchant Securities, but the relationship with the MSLA persisted, and greatly assisted future members when it came to lease extension negotiations. The MSLA worked hard for its members and was in a strong position, and helping many leaseholders to acquire the freehold of their blocks.
On 26th April 2014, the "Myddelton Square Leaseholders Association" became the "Myddelton Square Association" (MSA). At an Extraordinary General Meeting, the association renamed itself and expanded its scope and membership.
More recently the MSA played an active role in matters relating to the lease on Myddelton Square Gardens, working closely with the council to help it acquire a lease extension and keep the gardens open to the public.
